Sporting pleasures ahead
Our boss Roger Mosey blogged at the end of 2007 about what you could expect from ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport in 2008 and there's no doubt the new year has started with plenty of live sporting action for us.
This Sunday night marks the start of with coverage on ´óÏó´«Ã½ interactive television (just hit your red button), this website (for UK users only) and on Radio 5 Live. ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport will show you three of the four tennis Grand Slams this year, and with just at the right time, all UK tennis fans will be keeping their fingers crossed for a successful year.
And it also marks the start of the at Wembley, with coverage on the red button, on ´óÏó´«Ã½ TWO and, for a UK audience, this website in broadband.
This site will also have text coverage of the Aussie Open and the Masters, with live updates, reports, analysis and the chance to interact with other fans and journalists.
As the Open starts, comes to an end. This tournament has been screened on ´óÏó´«Ã½ television and thousands of people have also watched those pictures live on this website.
With football's , the and the all still to come on ´óÏó´«Ã½ television too, it's shaping up to be a busy but exciting opening to 2008 for us.
The Nations Cup gets underway on 20 January. All of the matches will be on the red button, except for some of the quarter-finals and semi-finals which will be on ´óÏó´«Ã½ THREE, and the final which will be on ´óÏó´«Ã½ TWO. There will also be a highlights show on ´óÏó´«Ã½ THREE at 7pm during the group stages.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to show those pictures on this website. Most of our rights deals for television now include broadband, but the Nations Cup is not one of those. However, there will be plenty of coverage on this site for fans of African football, with text commentaries, photo galleries, reports, analysis and the very best audio packages from our colleagues at World Service and 1Xtra.
The Super Bowl takes place on 3 February and American Football followers in the UK will be able to watch that on television and on this site. But we're not just coming into the climax of the NFL season cold. The on this site has had weekly video highlights from the NFL (for a UK audience), and a real community of fans on our 606 site who discuss the latest games.
And then we go into the which starts on 2 February. Again, all of the matches will be on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and, for a UK audience only, this website. Myself and other Sport editors will blog nearer to the tournament itself about our exact plans, but I'm expecting that fans of Tom Fordyce and Ben Dirs's work during the rugby World Cup may get another taster of their own unique brand of sporting commentary…
