Claridge Kicks Off

Post categories:

Steve Claridge | 17:19 UK time, Monday, 28 March 2011

Hello, and welcome to 'Claridge Kicks Off', the video blog where Steve Claridge tackles all the big talking points in the Championship, League One and League Two.

This week, Steve reflects on whether Martin Allen's return as manager can help Barnet stay in League Two, looking ahead to the Bees' crucial basement clash with Burton on Saturday.

He also analyses Brighton's bright future, with the League One leaders heading for the Championship and a new home at Falmer, and looks at Ronnie Moore's exit from Rotherham as well as Karl Robinson's prospects as MK Dons boss and how Torquay coped with their motorway delay on Saturday.

You can submit your questions for Steve below, or contact him on Twitter. He will answer them on a future 'Claridge Kicks Off' rather than posting a reply.

It's almost as if Steve is deciding if he wants to be bald or not, not many people have that option.

"At this level" a phrase used often by Claridge.

Hey I think Steve's going for the Phil Oakey (Human League 1982 ) look..If Steve could be flanked by a blonde and brunette on the next version. That would be smashing. Great video blog by the way.

"At this level, to be fair, has to be said, all due respect, no doubt about it"
Steve, you have all the charisma and TV presence of an empty tube of Pringles!!

Hi steve, do you think Oxford could make a late push for the play-offs or are their results and performances too inconsistant?

  • Comment number 10.

I am sending out a lost persons report for Amrit. Brighton are only 8 from 8 since his last prediction that the wheels would fall off the Brighton bus.....................
I am also looking forward to receiving the League One Championship trophy at our home game to "South Coast Big Club" in a couple of weeks time.

    @ #4 - trific

in all fairness, it has to be said, at this level it is a fantastic comparison you have made. With all due respect to Steve he has a marvellous haircut, there's no doubt about it.

His analysis armoury often contains the old "That's the way the table is at the moment, it's so tight, a couple of wins could take you right out of the relegation spots and looking towards promotion."

"if he keeps his head down and works hard, he could go all the way, no doubt about it"

"it might be too early for them to go up"

  • Comment number 16.

How can Connor Wickham be worth £15million as reported in today's press?? He's hardly setting the world on fire.... What must Taarabt worth, at least double that? Crazy....

    Dear Sir Steve,

Whilst I like your new floppy quiff, I have to say that I do kind of miss your widow's peak. Maybe time for a trip to the barber's to get the chop and revert to the Fran Healey/Danny Murphy look?

    I love you!

    Claridge for England

Warm regards and up the Gills!

    Dear Steve,

thanks for answering my question. What do you think of Gillingham's season so far? They're still in for a shout for automatic promotion but I think the play-offs will be tricky for them with all the teams in contention. After a bad start, they're going for it after all these months, do you think they will go up.

Also appreciated your verdict about Brighton. As a Seagulls fan, it's been a great season and hopefully a great future for us!

Can't see this lasting much longer. Blog posted Monday evening and only 19 messages left by Sunday morning - most commenting on your hair.

It is a shame that we have to pay you for this whilst the 606 message boards are going to be cut.

Rooney two match ban for swearing. Cohen three match ban for tackling. Season ban for standing at a football match. What is the point of football? Off to watch Doncaster Belles- See some proper tackling.

  • Comment number 22.

Steve, you seemed less than convinced that Cohen deserved a red card against Leeds on Saturday. Today, the FA have dismissed Forest's appeal against the sending- off. Doesn't that vindicate the ref's verdict?
Cohen would never have reached the ball without the two- footed lunge. George McCartney had to jump over the ball to avoid serious injury.
So possession of the ball wasn't won fairly, but by dangerous play. Therefore it doesn't matter whether or not there was contact between the players and irrespective of whether Cohen got a touch of the ball.
All of that considered, do you still feel that Cohen didn't deserve to be sent off?

  • Comment number 23.

What's with the snide comments? Is it cool? This top analysis from someone whi has played the game so whether you agree or not thank goodness someone like Steve is contributing about non premier league football. Note to Steve do a Rooney on your next video blog matey.
