Week 28 on iplayer...OMG
Wow! No words, for once I am lost for words... almost. The final installment of The Cut is now available on iplayer, and it is an absolute shocker. For anyone who hasn't been watching through the week prepare yourself for what is, in my opinion, the best episode of The Cut ever. I recommend that you're sitting comfortably, in a silent room, with full concentration, and a small box of tissues to hand. OK a big one. Honestly, it's immense.ÌýÌýÌý
So we leave The Cut for another series - so much has happened to all of the characters - but there's much more to come. Yes, series 3 is indeed right around the corner, we've already started writing and filming and there's some great storylines ahead. There will be a short break between the series', but the first episode of series 3 will be here before you know it. In the meantime we have plenty to keep you occupied, so keep visiting the blog for exciting Cut content and updates on series 3.
Talking of exciting Cut content, your first between-series' present isÌýan exclusive backstage video. We went behind the scenes at the filming of the final scene of series 2 (yes, the roof scene) and made a 'Making of...'Ìývideo so you can find out exactly how it was filmed. Did Billie (Olive) do her own stunt? How did Connor (Alex) manage to cry for what seemed like the whole of last week? Keep your eyes on the blog this Monday to find out.
Until then, Fraser will be on hand tomorrow to fill you in on the tunes used in this week's final episode, so don't miss that.
What a week.
Isla x
p.s. Two of The Cut cast members were also on the 5.19 Show yesterday chatting about the series finale, if you missed it you can watch it here.

At 14th Aug 2010, George wrote:Okay. I have watched it. I have so much to say I think the easiest thing would be to go through each character (in order of when they appear on the website) and give my thoughts on each one:
Olive - What can I say? I initially liked her at the start of Series 1, but in Series 2 she quickly got boring and I got fed up with the way she never learns. She was pretty fantastic when she gave that awesome speech though. I think although it's sad that she died I feel it was the only way to end the series. ON NO ACCOUNT bring her back and say she didn't die after all, that would completely ruin it. Billie North is a truly outstanding actor and I wish her all the best of luck in the future.
Cameron - I am really, really liking him at the moment. He was annoying at the start of the series, but he's actually a really nice guy and I expect he'll get loads of decent storylines in Series 3.
Frankie - I didn't like her much throughout the series, but she's got a bit better - a bit more mature. Interesting to see how her thing with Cameron will develop.
Rosa - No one knows why she disappeared after the first couple of episodes. My guess is that she's still at the school and no one's talking to her now. She could come back for the third series - be interesting to see if she feels at all guilty about Olive.
Tommy - I can't decide if he should come back for the third season. He will feel very gutted about Olive, and blame himself. Although it seems as if his story is over, particularly if he's going back to boarding school.
Alex - I can't describe how sorry I felt for him throughout this episode! I am so relieved that he didn't die. He does have a lot of potential, although he will be even more depressed now that it's partly his fault Olive died.
Marla - She made the right choice, to stick with Elliott. And she hates her mum now! I think she can probably live with herself now. Elliott will be a perfect partner for her.
Stephen - I hate him. I cannot say it more simply than that. Everything he does in the series completely depresses me. I hope he just vanishes off to Oxford or something.
Catherine - Most of the time I loved her. She's a lovely girl, and I think she will be really successful at Radio One. Incidentally, we don't know that much about her past...
Elliott - He got Marla! I'm glad he did, I thought they were just brilliant together.
Rory - Hmm, not sure if he stays with Toni or not. Probably not, if she's living with Mack. To be honest, I not a huge fan of Rory... I like him as a teacher, but not so much when there's the whole Toni-Mack-Rory triangle...
Toni - OMG her life is crumbling around her. Her sister is dead, she's living with her lover and her worst enemy and they're one and the same, and who knows what happened to her parents? Hope we find out about her parents though...
Mack - I quite like him now. He's got better than he was initially. Still not great though...
Amy - Woo-hoo, they kicked her out! Never come back!
Jay - Now he's an interesting one, because he's really the weakest character in the whole series, and at the start of Series 1 it looked like he would be the one person that didn't let everyone down. I hope he doesn't come back now, his storylines are definitely over...
Fin - Obviously she didn't appear in the whole series, but I can still see her coming back. She's extremely independent and she might get on okay with some of the new characters, e.g. Alex. (Incidentally, I think it would be good if they brought her back and it was revealed that she is bisexual and in a relationship with a girl. Not sure why I think that, I guess it would just suit her character)
Overall, I think the series did get better, and I was really enjoying it by the end. At the moment, I can't really see where they're going to go with Series 3. Most of the characters seem to either have finished their stories, or just be a burden on the new series. The only storyline I can continuing is the Frankie/Cameron/Catherine triangle. Maybe they should just do what they did with Skins and change the cast...
Vicki or Isla, will Series 2 be repeated soon? I want to show the episodes to my dad.

At 14th Aug 2010, George wrote:Olive, I agree with you. The Cut is slightly better than Skins. Skins has better filming quality and the Skins actors are slightly better (sorry guys, but I would have to say they are slightly better, but there's not that much in it. Although obviously some of the actors on The Cut are better than some of the actors on Skins) but I think the stories on The Cut are more realistic. It actually takes a lot for me to say that, because a) I live in Bristol where Skins is filmed, so I recognise the streets and b) I am an extra in Skins. The Cut needs more publicity, certainly.
Incidentally, is your name actually Olive? Or is it after the character? Or is this actually Olive speaking to us from beyond the grave? Gasp!

Skins is aimed at a slightly higher age group and the storylines are a lot more edgy and out there, but also high unlikely to every happen in real life. But I like both programms for different reasons.
Well.. Series 2 was fantastic! I'm so pleased that the big event of series 1 (Mack being beaten up) was finally solved, however it does close that door for series 3 :{ The Olive thing? Is she dead? I hope not, but if she is I'm annoyed. It will mean a LOT more brooding from Stephen and to be honest, I'm over it. I really don't want to see much more of him being sad with his guyliner.
My least fave storyline was the rosa one. I'm glad Tommy and Olive split up, but that storyline was so predictable and got dragged out for way to long. However, I think Scarlett (who plays Rosa) is a really good actress even if her character was a bit annoying.
My favourite storyline was of course the Toni/Mack one! Usually in dramas like Gossip Girl, The OC, Skins and 90210 the adults are rubbish and their storylines send the show down hills, but I really liked this one. I've had a soft spot for Mack since the beginning but now I'm glad he saw his wife for what she is and took Toni in. He loves her and she's really going to need support given the whole Olive thing.
Also I have a burning question! Y'know that midseries competition where we submitted pictures of outselves with the cast, are they going to be used for anything?
I LOVE THE CUT.

We need some kind of a break between the two series - maybe just enough time to repeat Series 2, like they did last time. I mean, there are moments in Skins that completely blow The Cut out of the water, and vice versa. For example, that one moment where Alex kissed Stephen was the best piece of television I have seen in AGES!! The fact that literally no one saw that coming was GENIUS!
The one thing that I think Skins does have over The Cut is that they have those massive open auditions. I know the ´óÏó´«Ã½ doesn't really do much of that sort of thing, but I think it helps it all seem more real if you more comparative amateurs...

Olive- Fantastically dramatic ending, made all the more dramatic by the fact she had just realised she didn’t need Tommy and Stephen in her life which was about to take a new direction, only to be cut short. Her death was probably a blessing in disguise, if she had moved in with the Mackinnons she would only have ended up back with Stephen. Thought Billie played the part really well and look forward to seeing her in other things.
Alex- Have loved Alex since the beginning, you can tell a lot of thought went into the character on both the writers and actor’s part. I love the way he observes what is going on and manages to stir things with a comment, action or suggestion. A fantastic character to take on a coming out storyline because he’s not the sort of person you typically expect, writers often go for a very sympathetic character in these cases and Alex isn’t that. I hope this doesn’t change totally in series 3. I would hate the character to have a total turn around and ‘become good’ because of the Olive thing.
Tommy- Would quite like him to stick around in series 3, bond more with Alex as I have really enjoyed the scenes between the two boys this week. Plus would be nice to have some of the boys actually be friends and hang out together.
Stephen- I think Matt Kane is great and hopefully now Olive is dead Stephen will do something other than think about her as I feel he has done little else this series, but I suppose that is partly down to having a larger cast than last time and limited time. I think the character has a lot of potential, his scenes with Marla and Mack are always really enjoyable, there’s the rivalry with Tommy, possible follow up of the kiss with Alex, plus he is supposed to be super smart and must be approaching going to uni / deciding what to do with his life time.
Marla- Love her! She has just the right mix of spoilt princess and vulnerable person to be really likeable and entertaining. She and Mack work so well together, they are really believable as father and daughter. Like with Stephen I would like to see her with a non romance related storyline next time, I felt she was a more rounded character in series 1 when it wasn’t all about boyfriends.
Elliot- He’s nice but that’s about it. I think he’s a bit too nice for Marla, she needs someone who will stand up to her when she gets in princess mode and though he can pacify her he doesn’t really stand up to her, totally door-mat over the whole Jay thing. Was disappointed not to see more of the sports star side of him, maybe something for series 3?
Cameron-Fantastic! I always look forward to scenes with him in, thoroughly entertaining and hope we see more of the same in series 3.
Frankie- she’s ok but I don’t feel we have had the chance to get to know her, again possibly having the larger cast hasn’t helped? I feel she has just been a side-kick to Cameron and Olive.
Catherine- Like what we’ve seen, but don’t feel like I really know her yet. Think she has a lot of promise though.
Mack s my fave of the adult characters, his interactions with Marla and Stephen are always good scenes.

I thought the second series was pretty standard. Do feel the storylines need to get deeper so that we can explore each of the characters more - but I think to do that there would have to be fewer characters altogether? Or the episodes need to be longer. I'd pick the last of the two options.
Also, any chance the episodes could be released on itunes or something?
