I'd just like to say I'm really looking forward to watching Time Trumpet, so don't you dare pull it, or I'll… I'll… well, I'll whinge about it for a bit, that's what I'll do.
Armando Iannucci is a comedy genius. If you could just get Chris Morris back as well. Okay, so they may get so near the knuckle they're like a fist in the face, but dammit they're funny. Plus they are excellent satirists of modern life, including the bits we like to pretend don't exist.
Define irony: The Daily Mail criticising someone else for pretending to be news.
Re: 1. on Time Trumpet
Interesting commentary here re ´óÏó´«Ã½ programme: 'Time Trumpet'
I have just followed the daily mail link and (if true), the 'Terrorist Award' segment of 'Time Trumpet' is pretty sickening. Does that mean would be for me to joke about the accidental deaths of those in Qana, Lebanon or do I have to wait 5 years?
No, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ should not broadcast this ill-advised sketch, which will undoubtedly offend many, many people.
I can't believe that people have their panties in a twist because reporters in war zones are not wearing neckties! Somehow I just don't think that neckties go well with bullet proof vests and flak jackets. Those who report the news from dangerous war zones should be commended for their bravery and not criticized for their casual appearance. A warzone just isn't as genteel or as requiring of fancy dress as one of the Queen's garden parites.
Well, I seem to recall that during the early days of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ radio newsreaders were required to wear a suit and tie even though they were standing in front of a microphone and would never be seen ...
So i'm guessing the tie issue is the old guard hearkening back to the good old days.
The only reason a tie would be any good in a warzone is if it was used as a tourniquet. What the reporter says is a lot more important than how he looks in situations like that.
As for pulling a sketch as being in bad taste ... if people don't want to be offended, maybe they should do something about the war to begin with. People are far too worried about their sentitivites instead of htoer people doing that whole "living" thing, and this is just another attempt to make like ostriches.
just a brief note after watching last night's Time Trumpet: the Charlotte Church segment made me feel uncomfortable, and maybe a little queasy, but so what? It's post-watershed and I could have turned over at any time if I wanted…
I watched an online video of the "terrorist awards" (can't remember or find the link) and while it did cut pretty close to the bone, I found it quite amusing.
If we don't laugh, the terrorists have already won.
I agree with Christopher Reiss if we change what we consider to be normal practise in our day to day lives then the terrorists have indeed won.
