I have a very close Chechen friend and I remember asking him where the name Chechnya originated from. His response was that he has never heard of this name and always wondered himself about it's origin, he continues, 'I am from NochChee' which directly translates to 'people of Noah' as in Noahs Arch. Apparently, they claim to be the direct descendents of Noah.
