For me, it would work if it addressed the single biggest failing of American politics: the absence not of debate but of forensic questioning.

I thought the ABC team had a go at it in their Democratic debate (I know I am in a minority here!), and although I would much prefer, say, one-to-one interviews with my ´óÏó´«Ã½ colleage John Humphrys, it is a fact that "ordinary people" sometimes have a tenacity and vigour that professional interviewers lack and cannot be batted away so easily.

Many British people (of a certain age I suppose) will remember . Hope I haven't torpedoed the idea. Bring on those ordinary folks...
