Destiny Calling
With the Soldiers of Destiny marching towards us, this week's Inside Politics focusses on what Fianna Fail's move north might mean for politics here. My guest is the SDLP Deputy Leader Alasdair McDonnell who takes a different line on the need to contest Westminster elections from the Irish Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern. The programme goes out, as usual, at 12.45 on Saturday afternoon on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Ulster.
I also conducted an interview with the Irish Labour leader Eamon Gilmore. Besides canvassing his views on a Fianna Fail-SDLP understanding, I asked whether he supported a motion due before his party conference from some local Irish Labour activists who want to contest council elections north of the border. Due to time constraints this interview won't run on Inside Politics tomorrow but I hope it will get an outing on Good Morning Ulster on Monday morning.

This was a classic Ahern move. Calculated to provoke debate but not revolution. Can't see the SDLP agreeing to abstentionism though. It's not the way the party does things. More on www.oconallstreet.com .
