Breast is best
We are slowly beginning to get some Executive bills through the assembly, but so far I haven't yet seen any sign of a private member's bill. But we shall have to watch the Green MLA Brian Wilson closely on this score. His party co-chair Kelly Andrews has called for the drafting of a breast feeding bill, bringing Northern Ireland into line with Scotland. Ms Andrews raised the issue after hearing from a young North Down mother who was asked to stop breast feeding her baby in a supermarket dining area.
So, time to get drafting Brian.

BREASTFEEDING IS NOT EVERYONE’S CUP OF TEA
Brian Wilson would be ill-advised to cite the incident of a young mother being asked to stop breast feeding her baby in a North Down supermarket dining area as reason to bring in a breastfeeding bill. Clearly, the supermarket was well within its rights to permit only food that was purchased on its premises to be consumed in the dining area.

My advice to Brian Wilson is to concentrate on mainstream environmental issues. If he pursues this breastfeeding nonsense he’ll simply make a £&£ of himself.

I fully commend Brian Wilson and the Greens on this breastfeeding bill. The Green Party is not just about environmentalism. They stand for social justice and human rights as well.
