Welcome to dot.Rory

Rory Cellan-Jones | 10:50 UK time, Tuesday, 22 December 2009

Welcome to my new blog. After Darren Waters left dot.life, we scratched our heads for a while and decided that it would make sense if Maggie and I each had our own blog.

I will be reporting mainly from the UK perspective, while Maggie gives the view from Silicon Valley - but as the web part of our brief respects no boundaries, we'll both feel free to roam all over the place.

The look and feel of dot.Rory may change a little as the months pass. I'm inclined to post more frequently, but with a mixture of short and longer items - and perhaps sometimes just a link to something interesting I've spotted. But I will of course be guided by your reactions - and will try to respond more frequently to your comments. So let me know what you think.

    Great job!

Looking forward to more of your posts in 2010!
I've created a short URL for everyone to access this blog too.

    Thanks

So, with the dot.life blog presumably disappearing there will be a choice of two other blogs instead.

Who gets to keep the dot.life logo?

Might it help to add the direct hyperlinks to such as the Newsnight RHS Nav bar to save chasing around from one to the next... er.. two each time?

You missed the recent release of the latest Ubuntu installment: Lucid Lynx

A great piece of code that some believe now puts it ahead of Windows 7 and OSX!

Great stuff - been following you for ages BUT why, oh why, doesn't the ´óÏó´«Ã½ website open external links in a new window .... clicking from, say, the News to an external site of a news subject refreshes the window and you meander away from the original site - surely the Beeb values the "stickiness" of the "open in new window" option?

Rory on your comments for Wireless in the UK, you say that the BT Openzone at Paddington didn't work when you tried it?

I think you will find if you where getting a landing page as you where and the error was authorisation you had either the wrong username or password or both?

You also might be interested in the LTE Trials and the bandwidth they will bring to rural areas?
