I agree that it would be a let-down if the Dem's failed to win enough seats to control either the House or the Senate, but it would hardly be catastrophic. In the US, voting is on a Tuesday (usually 7am to 7pm). Most average Americans are trying to get their kids to school or pick them up from Day Care facilities. They're working until 5pm or 6 pm and bosses don't genenally time off for voting. Election Day should be a Holiday or it should be moved to a Sunday. The media is a business and owned by corporations which generally favor the Republicans. Getting the message out (without the spin) is much more difficult for the Dem's. These circumstances are eroding democracy in the US and basically consolidating wealth and power in hands of a small percentage of the population. Ironic that the current adminstration seeks to promote democracy abroad while continuing to undermine it at home.

I doubt the evangelical right will stay home election day, which was the Democrat's plan. They forgot that Election Tuesday follows a Sunday,

Justin, the only way we (the Democrats) can lose is if and when Bush finds/captures/kills Bin Laden, or something of this nature, in late October. Knowing that Democratic control of the House and Senate most likely brings at least an impeachment if not a Presidential Pink Slip with it, Karl Rove will be doing anything possible to keep his boss, and himself, in office.
Mark my words ("no new taxes"), Rove and Republicans must do "something big" in late October to stay in office.

Who gives a darn about the evangelical christians? I for one don't and I'm one of them. My fellow christians are decieved. They voted for leadership whose main battle flags were flags of intolerance, greed, and hastiness. As we Christians say "You reap what you sew". I apologize that we care too much about gay people's priveate lives, that we don't feed the poor, that we don't practice love with victimized peoples. I apologize that American Civil Liberties are being destroyed in the name of security. I apologize that my country has started fires around the globe. God willing, this too will come to pass. I pray for a time when we can concentrate on advancing society and love.

I find the ABC report incredible. The reason that what Mark Foley did was a scandal was not that he show interested in the same sex, but that he was acting in a Predetory manner towards Childern. What someone does in the privacy of their own home, with consenting adults is really of no interest to me, but when a powerful public figure abuses childern and even more shameful his colleagues knew of his actions and did nothing it becomes an issue of public interest. This is not a homosexual issue but child abuse and abuse of power by Foley and all elected members that knew of his actions.

Ok, that headline made me laugh!
As for the apparent dropping of support among the evangelical christians, I don't think it will be significant, after all who else are they going vote for apart from their own party? The worst that they can do is stay home, but all Bush needs to do is say one of the magic words 'immigration', 'abortion', 'gay marriage', 'Hilary Clinton/Barack Obama', and they'll go and vote as they always do.

Mark Sutte, how about "shock & awe" unleashed on Iran as the October surprise? Don't dismiss that possibility out-of-hand. The Bush administration is on a downward slide, & in desperation just might do that. After all, they make their own reality.
