I can't remember a time when we've had more phonecalls, texts and emails in response to the amazing 999 call we played on today's show. And thankyou for all your blog postings too.
If you haven't heard it yet listen to it NOW. It's Leo Hickman ringing 999 as his wife goes into labour at home. So many of you who responded were men who wanted to tell me you were in tears, and I respect you for that. A few messages were from women who said they now wanted another baby. Steady on ladies.

That was such an amazing few minutes of radio airtime....like most of your listeners I was in tears. I sometimes feel a bit empty when I hear anything about procreation but after hearing this, partly perhaps because I'm familiar with Leo's articles in the Guardian I felt a sense of overwhelming joy for the couple. I was very impressed by calmness of Kate whio took the 999 call - & Leo.
Other items you discussed such as the line squalls/tornado weather phenomena were interesting too. I don't often catch your show as I am at work but I had the day off. I'll make a point of reading your blog & using 'listen again'.

Sorry it's taken so long to respond to yesterday's fantastic broadcast. Having been present at the birth of three children, I found the broadcast very moving. Well done Leo and his wife, sorry forgot your name, on the birth. But Leo, how did you stay so calm? I would have panicked like crazy!
My husband heard this yesterday and said I must listen to it. What an amazing phone call and Leo was so calm - I had tears in my eyes when he said he could see the baby's face. A really wonderful 999 call and a great advertisement for NHS 24.

Thanks for that. I'm always intrigued about why/when people use the "listen again" facility. Would you really have the time or inclination of an evening to sit down and listen back to something that happened live maybe 8 hours earlier? Do let me know I'm interested..
