Adebayor's started so well for Man City
Heads must roll
I thought the "controversy" over our decision to ask listeners if they wanted us to continue discussing the McCann case on last Monday's programme was over. No no no.
I discovered today that a newspaper columnist appearing on the Radio 4 show, The Message, on Friday called on the Director-General to sack my editor (as if the D-G hasn't enough on his plate at the moment).
I was aware people regularly demanded the heads of home secretaries and football managers but it's good to see radio editors join the distinguished list.
Judging by the aforementioned newspaper man's comments, he hadn't actually heard our programme, but never mind that, heads must roll.
The media claim one thing one day and another the next and create a gossipy society that we can do without.
We are also a reactionary people and the thing that annoys me is that there is hardly ever a big shot who pays for their errors. They just crawl back under their desk in the morning and make more sly remarks.
I said this in my blog 9 days ago if you want to check and who is more right? And I am only a punter with an opinion. That is what we all are so we should all keep quiet till we are in a position to comment on facts.

Hi Sue
Had a look at your blog. It's difficult sometimes because the story was the lead on every single bulletin (including CNN and Al Jazeera English) and on the front of about 1500 newspapers around the world. Every family in Britain was talking about the McCann case - and one of the things our programme is supposed to do is reflect what people are talking about. You raise a valid point though, thankyou.

Ref your comment on today's show about have a go and none police response. 2 Weeks ago I was driving my lorry to a well know super market in the middle of Oldham Firstly I was struck with was the fortress that it was with 7 ft pallisade fencing around it surmounted by 2 ft of razor wire . As I drew up to the goods entrance gate I was aware of several bangs on the wagon and took this to be the effect of driving over pot holes in the road Baring in mind that this was 21.00 in the evening and it was dark I was surprised to see about 30, ten and eleven year old boys running around the waste ground beside the yard why were they not in bed and what did their parents know about where they were??? About 10 minutes later a shop to you drop transit was waiting at the yard gate and it was stoned I really thought that I was in Beirut with the number of stones that were thrown. Also at the same time lighted papers was being thrown over the fence and set light to some waste paper stored in the yard compound. Greater Manchester Police were contacted while I was there by one of the store managers. GMP said that if they( the kids) set fire to anything call the fire brigade and gave the impression that were giving the incident a low priority and would no t appear for 2 or 3 hours if at all It would appear that this is a regular occurance of stone throwing and damage and the police response was anticipated and yet again diminished the trust between the public and the police who it is obvious will not turn out for anything hard to deal with or they are not measured on !!!!!
With regard to the columist, who was asking for the head of your editor re the McCann's vote.
I suggest that next time you see him, you point out that you don't get flat noses for nothing.
