You never 'phone, you never write...

Victoria Derbyshire | 13:36 PM, Monday, 8 October 2007

a broadcast stormThe studio was a very lonely place today without your text messages and emails.

Apparently there was a "broadcast storm" which knocked out all our 'phones and computers: your definition of a broadcast storm is most welcome.

handwritten scriptsOur photos show Andrew in the cubicle (he's our studio manager and opens the faders/mics, amongst other things) surrounded by handwritten scripts, cues and details of callers.

It was like the old days when we had to use pen and paper and had no idea what the listeners think of the subjects we're debating. Very strange.

Despite our technical problems this morning, I thought we had some amazing contributions from the parents of disabled children most of whom gave their backing to Alison Thorpe, the mum who wants her disabled daughter Katie to have a hysterectomy to avoid menstruation. Hi
I have an idea for an intersting/stimulating/high priority debate:
Britain is getting fatter by the day!
The Obesity crisis is growing literally by day!
I have atheory to explain this unhealthy growth:
If you were to study the growth in "car wash" outlets and "fast food" take aways - I would expect to find a simiar growth curve to that of the uk's waistline - in sumary - increased wealth (new labours way to make us all more content) has resulted in us becomeing LAZY BRITS - following in the footsteps, like lemmings - of the US model... I rest me case!!

There must be thousands of concerned and caring parents like Allison, the mother of Katie, doing a wonderful job caring for severely disabled children. I cannot imagine the strain on their health, mental, emotional and physical and of their families.
I have always felt Children of Courage was a good idea, maybe it is time parents were also recognised and appreciated and lauded in this way.

    Hello Victoria,

Thankfully I've never been in a position to make the decision that Alison has to make and so I dont offer an opinion.

However, a hysterectomy is an extremely painful and dibilitating operation which floors most women for up to six weeks.

Is there not an alternative? Surely, some contraceptive pills can stop periods, a patch under the skin or something!

The girl will be in severe pain!
