Immensely uninspiring and like everything with this 5 ring circus absurdly over priced.

That is a drawing of one of my mams trifles not a major sporting arena.

So we ( as in the country ) is to be left with a 1/2 billion pound 25k seater stadium and for some reason we're supposed to be cheer this ?

Maybe instead of allowing the people who made a total dogs breakfast of the construction of Wembley, with their world class ability to overun on time and budget, to be involved, Coe and co should have given the design team who did Stadium MK for around £50m a call.

    Just a thought.

As an aside how much of a wager would you like to take that the Stadium exceeds todays announced cost ?

It sounds like the government has been meddling again. remember what happened to the Dome and Wembley! They should have kept Tessa Jowell well out of the decision making.

I'd hope we could build the most inspiring architecturely modern, solid and exciting design and stadium possible but that looks like a temporarily erected giant circus marquee (lke the thing they reserect for the Edinburgh Tattoo) but round, bigger and flimsy like it would blow away once the autumn winds start.

After listening views on five live all day, I thought not another millenium dome. Get home looks fantastic if for some people that means it looks like a "normal" stadium tough.
Why do we have to have arches, funny shapes etc look at Plymouth new architecture, they could learn some lessons from this new stadia

    My first impressions were 'IMPRESSIVE'

as per the logo, you only tend to hear the negative comments initially, but as per the logo these are soon forgotten.

Who's moaning about the logo now?

Is this the World series of Baseball we are hosting?................ some legacy for the poor folk of Strattford, East London.

Maybe Charlton Athletic could play there in the future as it is a stadium worthy of their team.

A missed opportunity me thinks and will no doubt cost well over £ 700 million despite the original quotes...........and who will end up footing the bill....yup you got it - the noble British taxpayer.

Still - look on the bright side.....when Global warming causes the River Lee (and Thames) to flood (like New Orleans) it will be a great place for all the disenfranchised of East London to seek refuge and set about tearing each other limb from limb (see Astrodome.) Oh dear!

I think it is perfect. Big enough for the main event but sensibly designed to leave a manageable and usable legacy. This suggest we have learnt from the Dome fiasco not repeated it!

Ok, it's not stunning like Wembley or Cardiff, or even the Emirates, but let's remember - apart from two weeks in 2012, this will be a 25,000 seater stadium used for athletics and possibly either rugby or a (probably non-Premiership level) football club like Orient. So a stunning, amazing stadium would actually cost a lot more and be a genuine white elephant. This stadium may not inspire, but it is actually suited to its long-term purpose!

I'm not going to be as negative as some - it has a simple elegance I suppose. But why so much money for such a basic design? From what I can see, its a simple bowl, with a temporary "ring" above it, and a fabric roof and walls. Reminds me of a garden gazebo from B&Q!

What happened to the design they'd been talking about before? With "a roof resembling muscles". It seems like someone has gone for the "cheaper" option - except - it's more expensive!!

the arena is a beautiful image, but it comes at an obscene cost. this type of spending simply cannot be justified, £10 billion is a grotesque use of tax payers money. The revenue generated by the games will nowhere near compensate the country for this tyoe of spending. The corrupt system of backhanders, bribes & greedy contractors must be quashed this country should not be held to ransom for this type of money. downing street cannot justify this waste in the name of international prestige. it's unnacceptable. As a scot (and proud UK citizen), these ridiculous figures simply add weight to the nationalists (who incidentaly can mount a bid off £300m for the Glasgow commonwealth games bid). I smell a millenium dome in the making here. I m a patriot but there are limits as to where we blinly follow our leaders. they'd be nowhere without the greatest asset this country has - it's people!!

    Hello Victoria,

I actually think it is quite a nice design. The fact that it can be adorned with an exterior that fits the occassion is quite innovative.

I'm not sure that the best part of £500 million is a decent price to pay for a 25,000 seater stadium, though.

Can we have one in every city of the UK? It's just what Clydebank FC needs!

The London Stadium for the 2012 games? Brilliant and it will be a phenomenally useful venue for years to come. This is a magnificent opportunity for all tax payers to welcome the celebration of the games in London.

Let us now extend an invitatation to the sly tax dodgers skulking away in Belize and Monaco etc to cough up and help support the costs.

Well done London, and well done to the bid team. Now lets get on with it and ignore the whinging, negative gainsayers.

    Paddy ,

I suppose i'm one of those whinging gainsayers ( or maybe soothsayer as the day after the initial cost of the Olmpics was announced , under £3bn if you recall , speaking with friends i predicted that the eventual cost would be at least treble and hey presto ) but please feel free to point out where i said that the Stadium , ugly as i think it is wouldn't be useful .
I'm just staggered that anyone can be happy about spending £495m ( my prediction for eventual stadium cost cost at least £750m ) of mainly Lottery money to end up with a 25k seater stadium no matter how useful.
Its going to be dependant on finding an end user, which will mean a Football Club or a Rugby Club and as its only 25k that will mean Championship or League 1 Football. so it will be underused and still be a drain on the Tax Payer.
The insistance of the stadium being a home for British Athletics also lessens its appeal for Football Clubs as these types of stadiums with a vast no mans land of running track betwixt the pitch and the crowd are almost universally hated by football fans.
