Adebayor's started so well for Man City
The Conway Brothers
You make me smile - the first hour of the programme many of you wanted a police investigation into the financial affairs of Tory MP Derek Conway. The second hour of the programme - you got one, and we interviewed the Lib Dem prospective parliamentary candidate who made the complaint to the police. Then you texted to say "no one likes a tell tale"....
Victoria,
Your caller who sparked your discussion today completely missed the point to my mind. To compare someone who basically evades tax by paying for services cash in hand, like his builder friend, to an MP intentionally using public funds to basically fund his son through University is verging on the absurd.
His builder friend risks imprisonment, this MP risks a 10 day holiday from work.
As an aside if the Standards and priveilages comittee could find no evidence of Conways son having done any work why hasn't he been required to repay the full amount ?
Conways friend who has been all over the various Beeb networks all day saying " I know the man well , if he gives me his word then i accept his word " i wonder if this guy was one of the Tory MPs who took Archers word when he had his spot of bother or Aitkens when he was "standing up for Justice using the simple sword of truth" by trying to have his daughter tell a pack lies for him on oath. Both of these "gentlemen " were " Honourable " ( right Honourable i think ) and both of them were lying through their teeth.
It always amazes me that MPs who i have heard variously described as people with "tremendous intellect " and that they " have a tremendous ability to remember minute details of their particular briefs " are the most forgetful souls in the world when it comes to the various rules and regulations of the House when it comes to Money. I think Hain last week and Conway this week needed to apply Henry McLeishs immortal line when he was caught up in a bout of financial forgetfulness " it was a muddle not fiddle "
yes of course it was.
Its alright to pay a family member if its YOUR money but if its OUR money then we should know who's pating who and how much
Victoria,
With reference to the Texts you received stating: 'No one likes to tell a Tale' (Re: Tom Conway). This is precisely one of the reasons that the UK has the Social - decay that everyone complains about.
There are 'Telling-Tales', and 'geting involved' in your responsibilities. They are two different things.
We are not only shirking our responsibilities but actually putting People in danger, by ignoring Crime and bad-behaviour.
We only have ourselves to blame if we allow these activities to continue.
We are simply seeking to look after ourselves and leave it to the Police etc, to sort it.
The Police NEED our help to combat the things that harm us - without this help people will suffer and even die.
If we are afraid of repercussions from the Offenders, then the Police etc must counter this fear to a greater extent.
At the end of the Day, WE are responsible by default.
