Talking about sexual abuse

Victoria Derbyshire | 13:58 UK time, Wednesday, 6 February 2008

On Thursday's programme you can hear Liz who is 20 years old talking about the sexual abuse she endured at the hands of her stepfather for eleven years. She's an amazing woman.

Her Mum is going to talk to us too.

The reason is because despite years of campaigning, so many people who have been abused still don't tell anyone.

Why not? What's stopping people?

You can here the entire interview with Liz and her mum here (you'll need realplayer for this)

If you want some advice or help then you can call the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Action line on 0800 055 055 where there will people who can put you in touch with those who can help.

There's the NSPCC's Childline on 0800 11 11

And you can

why is it that no one is talking about sexual abuse directed at boys?. poeple are only talking about the one directed to girls not knowing that boys also suffer even more than the ladies when it comes to sexual harrasment.

Why is nobody asking the obvious question - why does sexual abuse of children happenat all? How do we stop it from happening? What is wrong with these people?

Yes we need services to support and help the victims. Yes we need to prosecute and punish the offenders. But it would be infinitely better if it could be stopped from happening at all. Is there any research being done on this?

Sexual Abuse happens to children because these people are power freaks. They love to have what they want at anyone's expense for their own gratification. It might not always be about sex, it sometimes could be just make them feel that thay're in control over evrything that's around them - they're sick!

Keeping it a secret is all part of the control game, it's the same with domestic violence and abuse, it's using force and subtle ways to manipulate people to control them.

Answer: Well, i truly believe these people should recieve very harsh punishments as well as Psychological help at the same time, remember these people do it deliberately alot know exactly what they're doing they don't care. That's my view!
