Do CCTV cameras make you feel safer?

Victoria Derbyshire | 08:21 AM, Tuesday, 6 May 2008

The reason we ask is because a senior police officer says they have failed to cut crime. He calls the system an utter fiasco - only 3% of London's street robberies are solved using security cameras. He says criminals aren't afraid of them and police officers often avoid trawling through CCTV images "because it's hard work".

Britain has more cameras that any other European country - we spend billions on them - but what's the point if they're as useless as Detective Chief Inspector Mike Neville says? Have you got them where you work, where you live, outside your local shops? Are you ever aware of them - and if so, do they make you feel safer?
