What class are you - and does it matter?

Lou Birt - Programme Editor | 09:09 AM, Monday, 27 October 2008

The former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott says he's working class but lives a middle class life. You can hear what he had to say on Breakfast below:

So can you be both working class and middle class? What is class in 2008 - is it only to do with money or is it about your politics, your family, where you went to school or how you speak? Or are the labels of class completely out of date?

This is a text from Pete in Manchester:

"I'm working class and proud. I am hoping to move in a few months to a nice house in a nice area, does that make me middle class? My wife denies being working class coz she grew up in a nice area and went to a grammar school, her dad is working class."
