It's amazing how inventive we can become when we have to. Just look at the Coal House women managing the ration book and purse strings in war-time Wales to see how it can be done. But back to reality...

You may have heard there has been a big call for more allotments in Wrexham and across Wales this year as people look to grow their own veg as a way to save cash. TV chef is behind an alternative, .

[Personally, my family had a disaster this year in the garden, losing a lot of our veggies to the prolonged heavy rain - but that's another story].

People have been finding other ways to make a saving. Have you heard about the web-based group [there are others covering the region] which now hosts events where people can exchange things for free? They've got nearly 5,000 online members and have been going since 2005. Their next Bring and Take event is Saturday at Church of the Nazarene, Stryt Issa, Penycae, Wrexham [10am-1pm].

If you've got any other tips, then leave them here.

Thanks
