World Cup Have Your Say -

If I was in charge FIFA.......

Sepp Blatter
I don't know about you but some things have really got on my nerves during the World Cup. Nothing more so than players patting referees on the back after he's made a decison in their favour.

The worst incidence of this happened during way back in the now distant days of the second round. In the 35th minute Sweden's Teddy Lucic got a second yellow for tugging on Klose's shirt. But he was only booked after Brazilian referee Carlos Simon was surrounded by German players brandishing imaginary cards. Eventually he did what they wanted, waved the red and as a reward received a pat on the back from Podolski.
This has inspired me to come up with a new rule. If I was in charge of FIFA the only players allowed to approach the referee would be the team captain. If anyone else tried to talk to him they'd be instantly booked. What do you think?
We'd like to hear your ideas to improve the World Cup - both rules and beyond. More qualifying teams perhaps? Retrospective bookings for players feigning injury? Better ticket allocation? (I think we'd all to see that happen).
Pretend you are Sepp Blatter for a few moments (don't worry you don't need to do it for very long) and put your thinking caps on.
Email us your ideas or leave a comment below.

Introduce post match reviews of the game. Obvious diving and acting means yellow card. I agree with your "one player can speak to the ref" suggestion too. Stop the clock when substitutions are being made. This is always where lots of time is wasted. Be mor strict with goalkeepers who take forever to take a kick. Lots of stuff which seems like common sense but might take some planning to implement. Worth it though, in my opinion. The cheaters are killing the beautiful game.

You are right it is obviously biased against the England team! We would do much better (statistically) if they introduced a coin toss at the end of extra time!

“The Beautiful Game”?

That depends on your definition of beautiful. If fouls, shirt pulling, hair pulling, diving, pushing and faking injury are beautiful, then Pele is right to call football, ‘The Beautiful Game’.

I don’t call it beautiful, though. I call it cheating. And it’s ugly.

Ugliest of all is when players dispute the referee’s decision. The poor referee! Clearly he needs some help, some firepower to back him up.

I think the referees need something in between yellow and red- something stronger than a yellow and not so irreversibly match-altering as a red. I think they can find what they need on a page of the Rugby rule book: it’s called the SIN BIN.

The Sin Bin (called ‘Sin’ Bin because you get sent there for committing a sin against the rules of the game) is like a 10 minute red card: A player is sent off for 10 minutes. No replacement is allowed, and when 10 minutes have gone by, he is allowed to return to the field.

It’s a punishment that gives the other team a real but temporary advantage. Perfect for a referee beseiged by complaining footballers.

Without question diving/acting/carding should be punished with a yellow card. I have said for a while now that there is too much going off in the field of play for one referee to cope with. We need two MORE assistant referees both following the play and watching out for all those niggles that players seem to get away with nowadays. When they are seen(like in the penalty box) they must be acted on. On the subject of wasting time thats very easy to solve. As soon as the ball goes dead stop the clock and start it again when its back in play. Obviously there as to be some form of time limit or some teams will be wasting time to gain some other advantage. A clock showing say 20 seconds should do it. If the player then takes longer the throw in/free kick goes the other way or if its a goal kick the opposition gets a corner.
One more thing, GET SHOT OF BLATTER. he's spoilt the World Cup by frightening the referees in to booking vitually every tackle(Bit better in the later stages). Most of the refs were booking a player on the 1st tackle made. Tackling is part of the game (fairly). Some will be mistimed, we are all human and this WILL happen. ALAN R

If after 90 mins there is no winner then extra time should allow each team 3 additional subs. If there is still no winner then award the game to the team who has attacked the most / had the most shots on goal or even scored the most goals in the competition to that point. Penalties only conclude a match and make the game very negative as some teams think it’s there best chance of winning. If teams knew the outcome would be based on “attacking” play it would force them out of their own half.

The game is being ruined by players diving, feigning injury and surrounding the ref to influence his decision. We need a T.V. ref for big competitions.

I do love the sport but I am apalled at the way Fifa is conducting it. The justice on the field seems to have gone all wrong thanks to Fifa's inefficient, corrupt and prejudiced refferees. There should be video playbeck refferee since the refferres on the field can not be trusted.Awarding Italy to win the cup with it's racist players is a shame. The joy of watching the cup was ruined by Fifa and it's obviously corrupt handling.

Zidane has shown how to fight back against the immorality to protect the integrity and honor to the billions of people of the planet; FIFA being always a corrupted and immoral organization can not only appreciate Zidane’s courage, but want to punish him for being the right example of defending the moral right. I’m surprise that FIFA (Federation for Ignorant and Foolish Asswh**es) president is talking of taking away the best player award from Zidane, as if he is best because FIFA thinks so! What a jerk! In the US we can even impeach the president, I suppose those things does not exist in FIFA!!

Is anyone in the right fame of mind in FIFA executive committee could stand up and say, let’s fortify the final match and award GERMANY the championship, which anyway is a far better team than a bunch of ugly and nasty immoral Italians?
