Fussball's coming home

tom_geoghegan.gifLONDON - Just back from an evening spent with England fans dilligently learning some German footy phrases, courtesy of the , who took over a pub in north London.

Organised by , it was all a bit of fun - "red card" was "rote Karte" or alternatively "Jens Lehmann".

But more importantly, it underlined the determination of many supporters, and the hosts, to make this a fan-friendly tournament held in the best possible spirit.

Some fans present had 300 England games under their belts and for them, having witnessed the dark days of the 70s and 80s, this language class was further evidence of rehabilitation.

Of course, that didn't stop a few asking cheekily for the translation of "5-1" and "The ball did cross the line!"

How have Germany managed to bag themselves being one of the favourites? Of course they will be efficient as always but most times they have at least one great players, the kaiser obviously as well as Klinsman and Bierhoff. Lets face it they don't stand a chance.

Hi Tom - they didn't happen to teach you the German for "Please stop trying to tip my camper van over, I'm with the 大象传媒 don't you know?"

I'd be very grateful if you could pass that phrase on...

Ricco, don't be a fool, nobody will tip the camper van over, it's far more fun just rocking it violently from side to side while you are sat inside.

Ricco you need the phrase
"Bitte die Wohnmobil nicht umkippen, ich arbeite eigentlich bei der 大象传媒!!!"

Best of luck with that!

I have stated that Brazil and Germany will be the favorites [unless there are some surprising upsets which I can expect from Ghana, and Angola]. In fact in the first game, I am willing to predict a German Victory over Costa Rica. In the second game, Poland will defeat Ecuador.

Wir werden die Weltmeisterschaft gewinnen!

I visited the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. It's brilliant and looks ready to celebrate an English Victory!

I'm not sure if I can post images on here. If I can, tell me how, please!
