Anxious wait for Svan

paul_fletcher.gifDREIEICH-OFFENTHAL - On Wednesday morning we find out when Svan will be fixed.

Basically, we are praying that a part has arrived from Italy to the garage near our campsite.

If it is not here by Wednesday then it will not arrive until Friday. If the latter becomes reality we face driving Svan around knowing that whenever we stop we might not start again.

The dodgy immobiliser has developed a habit of refusing to let us start Svan and Ricco's face was a picture of downcast resignation when the mobile home failed to leave a petrol station forecourt on Monday.

I dread to think where we might be the next time everything goes kaput.

The dream Wednesday would involve Svan being fixed and then heading west to drive it around the Nurburgring race track.

The idea came from Steve M when we asked for ideas as to what we should do on Wednesday but alas the official website seems to suggest that it is not open to the public until 20 June.

We will be checking this out on Wednesday but if not we will have to follow another suggestion - and I cannot help but think that the World Cup wine tasting tour in Heidelberg is a pretty good alternative.

The Koreans hit Frankfurt in number on Tuesday, though seemed to disappear very quickly after their win over Togo.

frankfurtstadion270.jpg They strike me as being incredibly fanatical, though their constant singing, drumming and jumping on the spot stopped abruptly when Togo took the lead.

As Korea equalised one man in the press could not contain himself any longer, jumping up and down while certain members of the European press looked on while shaking their heads.

When Jung Hwan Ahn netted the winner I thought the Korean journalist in question was going to explode.

We caught up with some of the fans in Frankfurt city centre after the game to ask them about the England team - check out the video.

Afterwards I ran into Roger Milla, who at the third time of asking signed a 'Fletch and Ricco' T-shirt.

Milla illuminated the World Cup in 1990 with his performances for Cameroon but I think his days of jigging around the corner flag after scoring are firmly in the past.

Paul, if you ordered the part from Italy, you may be in trouble... unless you remembered to include a bribe.

Hey guys, if you're going to Heidelberg anyway, you can as well visit the German Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit, the Motodrom in Hockenheim, which is just 20 km down the road. On the 22nd in the evening (17:30-20:00) there are "Touristenfahrten" which means you should be able to chase Svan around the course. Not sure if it's possible to have a go at another day, but if this shouldn't work out you can always go there on a tuesday evening, put on your Inline skates and go around the course that way. It's pretty cool because the Motodrom is a vast arena and if you haven't brought your skates with you, you can rent a pair there.

Svan the camper van.

Just what makes svan less butch than other motor homes?

We have already noticed with the immobilser issues the tendency to tantrums but are there other signs?

Are the seats upholstered in sparkling lurex or is there more of a predeliction to leather?
Is their a mincing roll to his wheels as you drive?

What signs do we have of this campness?

I think we should know.

Kristian,

Svan is one of those puns/play on words that arise around a couple of pints..

It seems great at the time though ;-)

Svan will play the immobiliser issue very cautiously. It may be that the injured immobiliser will have recovered enough in time for the next game. However knowing the story behind delivery of parts from motor manufacturers, it will probably be that the immobiliser will not be fit for the game against TNT and it will have to sit it out until the Sweden game, when it should be fully recovered.

Are you sure Svan isn't aka Ivanka? The only reason I ask is s/he seems to be susceptible to strops and unreasonable behaviour. Maybe s/he just needs some tlc and airing.
