The desperate search for tickets

paul_fletcher.gif MUNICH - There was real tension outside the ground as Brazil prepared to face Australia - and it wasn't about the match.

The sheer number of people hanging around outside looking for tickets really took me by surprise.

There was some serious business taking place outside Frottmanning U-bahn station in the hour or so before kick-off.

Literally hundreds of people stood holding home-made cardboard signs requesting tickets.

munichticketsday12_2_270.jpg With all the hustling and jockeying it looked more like the floor of a stock exchange than the area outside a football ground.

The moment the doors opened on the trains shepherding fans to the stadium several people on the platform sprung into life, holding aloft their signs.

One said "I pay 400 euros for a ticket", while Tom from Australia had heard that somebody bought two for 250 euros and was hopefully of similar good fortune.

Other prices seemed to be much higher, while one exchange ended in a very heated manner. "Forget it, it is over," said the seller as he briskly left the scene.

It got me wondering about what sort of people this tournament is geared towards.

OK, Munich has been packed over the last two days as Brazilians and Australians descended upon the city for the match at the .

OK, so it was a hugely attractive fixture in a futuristic new stadium that unlike many in Germany actually has the pitch less than several hundred metres from the stands.

But nonetheless I could not help but wonder how many people in the ground would be there courtesy of hospitality or corporate packages, while outside fans who had saved for years to come to Germany for the World Cup were prepared to spend silly amounts of cash to watch their team.

Many fans that I have spoken to out here have commented on how relatively few - and thus expensive - black market tickets have been for this World Cup.

No question, if you are coming to Germany to try to tout tickets prepare for frustration and disappointment.

The frustration and disappointment after the match in Munich belonged to the Australians, who hardly deserved their .

There were thousands of ticketless fans in the city centre as Ricco and I watched the match in an Australian pub. Unfortunately the TV screens all seemed to be at a slightly different stage of the match.

One set of screams from people looking at another TV alerted me to an imminent near miss on the screen I was watching.

I'm passing on the Munich post-match party tonight as an early night is required.

I just hope that tomorrow the coach full of Scottish fans close to our camper van abstain from their early morning blast of followed by hours of AC/DC.

So , for next time, FIFA should be more careful about this kind of matter. However, this is a part of football everywhere.

They are having the same problem here in Belgium when one screen shows cable, another one satellite/digital.

So, if we're quick enough with the remote we can watch Rooney's opening goal against Sweden twice in a matter of seconds? ;)

The short-lived joy of a match ticket thief in Munich.

In short: He stole the ticket from a women and consequently sat next to her husband in the stadium. Who had no better idea than to call the police.

Thats what they where trying to do. Personalized tickets and no way to cange the name on the ticket without a good reason. They could effectively fight the black market by checking identities at the stadium. But that might result in half full stadiums and noone wants that.

Tickets did cost up to 1,980 Euro's face value.
Opening match bought from Fifa cost 600Euro's if you had a Cat-1 and also had Hospitality you would have paid up to 3,000 Euro's.

Could be that the last game the ones complaining about the cost of tickets was in the 1980's. If you went and saw Chelsea at home you can pay up to 拢1200 easily per game.

The world Cup is every 4 years takes years to organise and host's the finest players on earth in the final stages. For that how to give that a price>? I have just paid 500 Euro's to see England with hospitality but if they were in the final stages I would pay much more. We all try to blag tickets but how much can you blag!

The Fan-fests are getting better by the day and when the real big ones are ready for the semi-finals / Final they will be Stadium like - you will have to pay but only a small amount but the atmosphere will be electric, the Germans have thought about this as they know only a tiny number will be able to be inside.

Anyone wanna sell me a england ticket I happily pay 400 pounds not Euro;s!

Tell me about it. Before the match, I thought Brazil would murder us 3 or 4 Nil.
During the match, I thought we could beat them.
After the match, I think the Aussies played brilliantly in defence and midfield, hampering and out-playing the Brazilians. We just lacked the finishing up front. That`s a problem. Maybe Brazil were just defending too well.

For the 2nd match running we had a dodgy ref (giving loads more fouls to Aus than Brazil, inc some fouls that were not fouls at all. Wish they were consistent and applied the rules to both teams fairly. Maybe the Aussies tough-tackling rep preceded them.

Man of the match for the Aussies was Emerton imo.... he really gave the Aussies impetus going forward. They all played extremely well though... but obviously not well enough to score. I hope they sort out the scoring aspect for the Croatia game. I have every confidence they will.
I don`t think we`ll get past the first game in the knockouts though.

few points..
firstly well done the aussies for the game yesterday, the players and fans in the allianz arena were awesome.
the supporters never shut up and sang the whole way through, i think any english fans in the ground would have been impressed with us.
secondly, the price of ticckets, well i was prepared to pay 600 euro and was lucky enough to get one for 350, but to be honest for anyone who was there for the game, was money well spent, as was one of the best atmosphered games i have been to in a long time.
met two guys who refused to pay 350 originally, then were regretting it.no one who went to the game yesterday will talk of the price of the ticket, thats forsure!
last of all, the aussie players who did us proud, they passed the ball around and really gave it a good shot which is all we wanted.
the ref was a major disappointment with his decisions being at times terrible.overall an unbelievable experience and great day for australian football.
only thing is where were the bars after the game!!
ben.

Sorry ben
But lets be honest the aussies couldnt score a pint in a brewery. Kewell the new Aussie god missed a gapping open goal and captain fantastic, well how many chances does he want.
Carhill the saviour, Hiddink the genius decides to take him off, must be on the same wave length that made Sven promote Becks to right back!
You boys should of had a draw and possibly a win but woeful finishing could mean an early bath :(

Talk about couldn't score a pint in a brewery! Broken footed goalless strikers and dreadlock yanking beanpoles
to propel England to a World Cup!? At least Australia's goal keeper wasn't standing in the goal by himself like a drunken beef eater with no-one within 50km, watching the ball sail over his pony tailed head thinking "ooh nice one Ronaldinho" like that bloke in 2002! What was his name? Ejaculate or something? Owen left Liverpool to win silverware, better leave England too. If you look hard you'll find Gerrard isn't even English, he couldn't be he's too good!

P.S Does Beckham inhale helium before interviews?

P.S.S Bring on the Ashes because you are going to get BURNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
