Your comments on America and the Middle East

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 19:40 UK time, Monday, 24 July 2006

It's been an incredibly busy programme. We've been discussing what America should and can do to resolve the and have been deluged with calls, texts and emails.

The US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has had a . She's already met the Lebanese Prime Minister and now she's got talks with the Israeli Prime Minister coming up. Peter and I have been reading out your texts and emails on the programme and I wanted to post them so that those of you online could read them as well. Here they are. I'll speak to you tomorrow.

Birgir, Iceland
The USA will veto every solution that the world community comes up with if it has any inconvenience to Israel. America should stay out and listen to the world community instead of just one country.

Marial, Nairobi, Kenya
Let the Americans in to slap the Israelis on the back saying 'good show but stop for now'.

Text from Detroit
America is asking Israel to implement 1559 in Lebanon instead of asking Israel to implement all other resolutions against Israel.

Fraser. Scotland.
The US should leave Israel to root out the extremists once and for all. A brokered cease fire will only give Hizbullah time to rearm.

Kazeem - Nigeria
It's quite unfortunate that civilians have to pay for the sins of some extremists. America should leave Israel to bruise Hezbollah.

Ashraf - Atlanta, Ga USA. I just want to say I'm proud to be an American but when my government follows Israel blindly and does not help to stop the violence on innocents, it truly saddens me. U.S. know it have considerable influence over Israel and the Middle East. By killing innocents you give more fuel to the radical organisations and making it a never ending cycle.

Ahmir in Jakarta
America can never be effective until it wins the hearts on both sides. But by allowing Israel to go too far it has lost that chance. Hezbollah is now winning the hearts in Lebanon, unfortunately.

Ahmed called in to say - forget america, what is the UN doing?

Pearl in PA
the U.S. cannot be an honest broker. We Americans who see through the whole charade need support from Europe. Can't Europe stand up to the U.S.?

Chanda from Zambia
Condo rice show the world that USA respect international laws by forcing a ceasefire or we begin to wonder if arabs can be killed just like that

Lewis from Liberia
AMERICA WILL BRING PEACE AND THE HIZBOLLAH SHOULD STOP CAUSING PROBLEMS.

Ibrahim in Nigeria
America is a meddler and not a mediator in the middle east. It is the facilitator of the incessant crisis.

Anon from Uganda
Arab nations are like little brother who starts a scaffle with a big brother but quickly runs to the father for help when things get tough.
