Your solutions to the Middle East crisis
This isn't actually Ros, but Puja (my log-in is playing up). I've been reading out your texts and emails as we've discussed the US Secretary of State for the Middle East. She says the US would seek a UN resolution calling for a ceasefire and will also call for the UN Security Council to support a comprehensive settlement and an international stabilisation force in Lebanon.
So can such a solution work? This is what some of you had to say:
Frank in Italy:
The region needs a durable peace and not only a ceasefire.
Duncan in Cyprus
If an international force is deployed they will become a target just like Iraq and Beirut 1983.

It amazes me, the US creates the problem by giving exclusive backing to Israel, and now they are credited with the solution which involves the rest of us sending troops. Brilliant! My policy would be sanctions against Israel.

3 things I want to point out, 1 Israel still occupy some lebanese land and no one points to this! 2 - Hezbollah never fired first, always returned fire. 3 - if Hezbollah gave up their arms Israel will be able to do what they ever wish in the region and especially in lebanon, cause it is much easier to hit normal military sights than to hit a gorilla army.
David Silvano writes:
It will better if Hezbollah move in front line or boarder so that Israeli bombardment will not crash the civillians or the government of Lebanon should stop Hezbollah, if not let the Israeli be allow to discipline the Hezbollah.
Diplomacy and talks will never be the way out with terrorists who believe in the destruction of israel! you obviously didn't watch Panorama last night and how Hamas went out of their way to destroy the oslo peace accord (1993?)

How about Israel leaving the "Sahaba farm" then Hezbolah would have no other excuse but to make peace. You can not take their land and tell them not to defend and fight for the land.

Your phone guest Ann from Lebanon has the typical Lebanese point of view. Just emotional complaining and misdirected anger, no real solutions or ideas for peace. When they start caring for their country and children more than they hate Israel, then they will grow up and create solutions.

What will happen with the million or more of the Palestinian in this proposed long term solution? Nobody has thought or wants to think about this?

Hey, tell the terrorist to back off and Israel will to. The world needs to understand who the instigator is - Hezbolla. The terrorist don't care and start fights then crying oh don't hurt us. Bull crap. Tell the Lebanese to get Hezbolla in order and there won't be a problem.
