Monday's running order

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 12:44 UK time, Monday, 30 October 2006

As you'll see from Pete's first post of the day, and from my notes on the Morning Meeting... Today there are two issues that that stand out....

WHO'S RESPONSIBILITY IS IT TO SAVE THE PLANET?

Clearly there is some dispute over the extent of climate change, but as the majority of you appear to accept that there is reason to be concerned about the world's environment... So we're going to boil this down to asking 'Who is responsible for addressing climate change?' If you believe there isn't climate change, or you believe that there is and it's not a pressing issue then of course we want to hear your views as well.

The British government is considering green taxes - something that's receiving, shall we say, from you on bbcnews.com, and of course this is one of many ways of doing something about the environment from recycling a jam jar to restricting air travel. So tonight we'd like to hear who you feel is responsible for leading the way against climate change and what you want them to do.

IS NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING LEGITIMATE?

I sat at a seminar about the US mid-terms last week here at the and when one of the experts was asked he if thought most votes in these elections would be cast for negative reasons, he replied 'almost all of them'. Of course you could argue that it's natural that we should all have people we want to keep out of office as people we'd like to win... But is there more to it than that? The US Mid-terms have featured some

So is on your political opponent fair enough? Or is more a case of mud sticks and that politicians don't care if accusations are true... So long as they create negative associations with their opponents? We'll try and speak to some of you in Brazil and Congo (just had elections), Nicaragua (got them coming up) and France (tetchy Presidential race in progress with 6 months to go). Of course, wherever you are, please give us you perspective.

And here's the follow-up question - are you affected by negative campaigning? Do you ignore it, laugh at it, or turn against the negative campaigner?

I'm starting to read around both issues and will post anything of interest that I find as the day goes by. For an excellent overview of negative campaigning you could do worse than .

Speak to you later.
