FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE
Hi, it's Hasit here. Tonight we talked about Somalia and the international talks aimed at bringing peace to the region. We're also talking about the 'blasphemy challenge' on YouTube. And we had guest presenter - Dan Moulthrop from WCPN Radio in Cleveland. He's there, and Ros is here as usual in London.
Somalia
While a group of diplomats meet in Nairobi to discuss what to do about the situation in Somalia, we've assembled our own panel across town in the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Nairobi studio, to see if they can come up with a better solution. Bob is Kenyan, Mohammed and Ali are both Somalian, and Tolcha is Ethiopian. You can help them out, so call, text or email us.
Lubna in Iraq:
"Hi Ros and Dan. Somalis, dont do as iraqis did, sit together and solve your problems by your own, don't exclude any Somali group from the solution."
Abdulkarim in Gambia:
"Ethiopia, pursue the UIC to the bitter end. That's the only language all the terrorists understand."
Patrick in Liberia:
"Thank you Ethiopia for breaking the wings of the Al Qaeda offspring called ICU"
Salim in Lusaka:
"It is time to deal with all warlords in Africa. Somalians are fed up of war. Let the entire world help them."
Mansour in Monrovia:
"Somalis should stop the suffering of their people. Nobody can do that, only themselves."
Dr Luwa in Nigeria:
"The Ethiopians have done Africa proud. Next thing is to sent troops to help stabilise Somalia or Somalia will destablise Africa."
Uchenna in Nigeria
"Somalians should learn how to be in peace and stop killing one another"
Jomahson in Sierra Leone.
"First Ethiopia denied sending forces into the country. But now it admits taking over. They will soon fall into a mess similar to that of the USA in Iraq."
Majid in Nigeria:
"Ethiopia did not ask any country before invading Somalia"
Blasphemy
We're also talking about a challenge posted on the YouTube website for atheists to put their 'souls on the line' by posting videos that some would consider blasphemous.
Victor in Nigeria:
"Denying God's existence is like denying one's own existence. It's a rebellion against God and a useless friendship with Lucifer."
Emmanuel in Lagos, Nigeria:
"Hi ´óÏó´«Ã½ - blasphemy is still in force and is an unforgivable sin unto the end"
Joseph in Kenya:
"There is too much evidence for creation - it all points to the existence of an intelligent god"
Emeka in Nigeria:
"Who ever says God and the trinity does not exist would say that to God on the judgment day. You'd better REPENT!"
Back to Somalia, where our three panellists came up with a three point plan for peace in the country.
Mohamed in Kenya
"Let the ethiopian forces leave. They're the ones illegally occupying Somalia against our wishes"
Anis in Pakistan:
"I appeal to Somalian people and all other countries to obey the law. Stop fighting each other and take heed of the Iraq situation"
Owor in Kampala:
"If the Somalis want peace, now is the time whether it's Americans,Ethiopians or other africans facilitating them"
Nasir in Nairobi:
"I think the only solution for Somalia is to remove Ethiopian troops. We need experienced troops like Russians or Chinese"
Dr Allan in Uganda:
"I hope peace prevails in Somalia so that the conflicting parties can live harmoniously. The people have suffered enough."
Josiah in Kenya:
"Somali has known no law for sixteen years, and they should seize the current opportunity to restore order in their country. The Islamic Courts were bunch of thugs."
We finished with a story of a . New Yorker Wesley Autrey jumped on to a live railway line to save another man who'd had a seizure and fallen down. It's all over the news in the States, says Dan.
We're all off for the weekend now, so thanks to our East African panel in Nairobi, and to our hopefully regular guest presenter Dan.
