Goodbye Washington
Update: It's now Friday and we have an official response from the World Service Commissioners:
"We're very sorry that listeners to WETA will no longer be able to listen to progammmes such as World Have Your Say. We're afraid that this decision is one taken by WETA and has nothing to do with the ´óÏó´«Ã½. We do hope that listeners will be able to hear ´óÏó´«Ã½ programmes through the public radio station WAMU in DC as well as through satellite radio on Sirius and XM and, of course, via streaming on the internet."
If you are missing us on WETA, you can listen to the past week's programmes using the links in the right-hand menu, or listen live at 1300 EST via bbcworldservice.com, and on Sirius or XM satellite radio.
And we have just heard that WAMU in Washington will be adding World Update and Newshour to its schedule at 5am and 4pm EST respectively. We're hoping that they might add WHYS to that list before too long.
From Monday 23 Jan:
Monday's broadcast was our last on . At 8 pm EST yesterday, the National Public Radio station that rebroadcast us in the Washington area reverted from a news format to classical music.
The station issued a yesterday giving the reasons for the switch.
WETA was one of the US stations that broadcast our first show, on October 31, 2005. Their support over the first six months led to our March broadcast from the city's Woodrow Wilson High School, since when we have increasingly got young people involved in the programme.
We're particularly grateful to WETA's programme director, Maxie Jackson, for his unwavering support and backing for the show from the outset.
And finally, we have to thank the most important part of World HAve Your Say - the listeners. We hope all of you in and around Washington can find other ways to listen to the programme. And please keep your comments coming.
