Laura from Italy

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 15:00 UK time, Monday, 22 January 2007

Hi there! My name is Laura and I'm Italian. I currently live in Preston in the UK, where I am studying online journalism at UCLan (University of Central Lancashire). As soon as I finish university, I’d like to go back to London, find a job, settle down, start my first mortgage and stop paying rents!

I love rock music and my dream is writing about the rock genre in particular. I also like photography, and I’m currently learning how to handle my first SRL… Hard work!!!!

I like travelling a lot. I think it’s the best way to learn, to understand different cultures and to meet interesting people.
My home village in Italy is Lurano, in proximity of Bergamo-Milan, and only 1hr from the Alps.

When I’m back home and I wake up in the morning, I look out from the balcony of my bedroom and I’m surrounded by green fields, small churches, and snowy mountains… Unfortunately, I think Italy is a bit boring and that’s the reason why in 2002 I moved to London for the first time.

I find WHYS from your international news section, which I started to read every day during university.

WHYS is amazing. I think it's the megaphone of good causes. Too many times media is concentrated on un-interesting, un-important issues (i.e. super-arrogant-celebrities, super-rich-footballers, etc.), but WHYS brings to light interesting international, political, social programmes which are not discussed anywhere else.

The touch given by listeners and readers who participate to the programme is superb, because you have the possibility to build the whole picture around a topic/argument. At the moment there's nothing I don't like about WHYS.
