Tuesday morning's ideas . . .

Paul Coletti | 09:01 UK time, Tuesday, 13 February 2007

On a bright sunny morning in London news drifts in that there may be a in the North Korea nuke talks. Has Kim finally seen sense? Has America softened its position? Will potential US food aid save these from certain death on the plates of the hungry Koreans? Read on for early suggestions and please, do join us in our morning meeting if you'd like to have a say.

North Korea
This is definitely worth watching. The North Korean's have agreed to shut down their reactor within 60 days in return for aid. This is a breaking story so we'll see what happens . . . the bunnies can breathe for now.

Homosexuality in US Basketball
US NBA star John Amaechi (originally from England) came out as a gay man a few days ago and in today's article in the British he says of homosexuality in sport: "it is a turf war. Right on one side, might on the other. Tolerance and respect on one side, deep-seated, turbo-charged, testosterone-fuelled bias on the other." Is he making a brave stand? Or is this just hot air? As author writes, why did he wait until his career was over before taking this step?

Guinea
Things in have got a lot worse. President Conte has declared a state of emergency and thugs are openly walking the streets harassing anyone who crosses their path. The ´óÏó´«Ã½ correspondent in Guinea, Will Ross, has eyewitness accounts . Will writes: "Each evening many people are glued to their small radios or crowded around television sets awaiting any possible word." If you or anyone you know is in Guinea and you'd like to tell the world what's happening then please get in touch with us: +442075570635.

Can you have sustainable whale hunting?
Japan has called a in Tokyo today for members of the International Whaling Committee. However, most of the IWC's anti-whaling memebrs haven't bothered to turn up although representatives from Cambodia and Malawi are there! They haven't declared their intention yet but it is expected that the Japanese will ask for a cancellation of the moratorium on whaling. "But Japan is hunting whales!" I hear you cry. Yes, but the hundreds they kill on an annual basis are actually for "scientific" purposes. Why shouldn't we hunt whales commercially provided it's done sustainably?

Two shootings in America leave 10 dead
There will be the inevitable calls for stricter handgun controls but what are the residents of South Philly and Salt Lake City saying about the that have ocurred this morning? If you're in the area let us know what folks are saying.

Police - Sting?
Yet another bunch of ageing rockstars are back together. The Police have announced they are . But are they simply a vehicle for Sting to get publicity? A Google for "the police official site" reveals "Sting - official site" as the top result.
