Len in Atlantic Provinces, Canada

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 15:55 UK time, Friday, 6 April 2007

Hi. My name is Len Maclean. I live in the atlantic provinces in Eastern Canada. I live exactly in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Its an island populated with the descendants of the highland clearances. I have 4 teenagers, all in high school. I am an operator of heavy equipment, previously i was a canadian soldier serving in continental europe with the 4th combat mechanized brigade group (canada) alongside british and american forces, in places like check point charlie etc.

After work i come home do things around the house and in the evening i go online to many sites, but the bbc is my main site for world news and events. theres not much i dont like about WHYS with the exception of those that hijack the site for thier own agenda and do not stick to the debate.

stories and issues are always interesting so it matters little to me, however, i was once a commericial fisherman and i know that the annual seal hunt here upsets a lot of people in europe. i also know that they do not understand the hunt very well, all they focus on is the white seal pups and not the real issues, white seal pup harvest was banned years ago, as was the blueback pup harvest. so when the hunt is on,animal rights people always show the killing of seal pups which is misleading the public.

enviromental issues are high on my agenda, as is illegal fishing, traffic in humans, and crooked politicians which canada has an abundance of (see canadian political arrests and convictions) but i will tackle any debate if i have knowledge of the issues.

thanks, len
