Bonjour . . . .
Welcome to World Have Your Say's broadcast from France. While WHYS Squad A exfil from Abuja to Accra, Squad B have infiltrated across the channel and are deep undercover in the land of cheese, chanson, and champagne. As Rabiyah mentioned we're asking what now for France?
Of course, if there are other great talking points for today then feel free to let us know.
Le Bulldozer
The man who served the past 2 terms in the Elysee Palace will hand over to Sarko today. How will you remember Jacques Chirac (whose nickname during his 12 years was Le Bulldozer)? Do you lean to the bullish or more to the doze? Was the Chirac legacy a time of stagnation, as some have suggested, or robust development? Let us know.
Here's what one person on the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Have Your Say debating site had to :
Jacques Chirac to me will be the embodiment of hubris, the large man elboweing his way to front-row centre whenever the European first ministers lined up for a group photograph. He has presided over an unfortunate period of French decline with persistent high unemployment, exacerbated by the serious social divisions starting to emerge. He also leaves office facing a potential prosecution for embezzlement of public funds during his period as Mayor of Paris. He also insulted Finnish cooking!
Sarko
Sarko will become President within the hour. How do you think he ran his campaign? What do you think of his reaching out to the socialists? Or simply put: what do you want Nocolas Sarkozy to do during his term?
What now for Sego?
The socialists lost the election but where do they go now? Laurent Fabius who was Socialist Prime Minister between 1982 and 1986 thinks there is a "leadership problem". Do you agree?
Other talking points
It's hard to avoid talking about Palestine. Infighting between Hamas and Fatah is causing grief on a large scale. Hamas have stormed a Fatah security chief's home this morning and killed 6 guards. I'm watching CNN as I type and they are listing the various forces that are currently loyal to the two factions . . . Fatah have: The National Security Force which incl. the presidential guard; the Palestinian Police Force; The Preventative Forces; the Al Aqsa martyrs brigade and the PLO Badr Brigade. Hamas have: The Executive Forces; the Izz el Deen Brigade and the Popular Resistance Comittee.
All these groups have one thing in common - they are armed. Is there a way out?
Paul Wolfowitz
What now for the boss of the World Bank? White House spokesman Tony Snow has changed his tone but the man himself is alleged to be .
Republican candidates
The GOP are choosing who will run in 2008 and held their second debate. Did you watch last night's TV tussle between Rudy, Mitt, Mike et al? If not here's of the whole event - the comments are very interesting.
