Hello, Huw here, in for Zane tonight on Radio 1 for One Night Only. Tonight, I've made the 'Hottest Record in the World' the 'Coldest Records in the World'. First up, brand new from the XX a b-side to VCR their next single called 'Insects'. My favourite band of '09 do the lushest vocals and the coldest beats to devastating effect. And the second Coldest Record in the World? Little Drummer Boy, in time for Chrsitmas, from Norwegian producer Lindstrum, available as an exclusive bonus with his forthcoming album, and orginally a 40 minute version. Don't worry, this is the four minute version. Nice!
Boom. Pow. Just like that Animal Collective give us more music. A brand new EP. 5 songs. One of which is tonights Hottest Record. Complete with a Grateful Dead sample. Crafty. That and creators of one of, if not THE, album of the year. Metacritic will unveil in good time.
Tonight's Hottest Record is a follow up. Played at the end of show last night, the new Laura Marling is a typically wisened observation set to delicate acoustic instrumentation.
Great reaction from her fans on text. Details about the new album are thin on the ground. But we know it's finished and due out next year
This one should travel. There will a lot of interest in the new Late Of The Pier tune, 'Blueberry'. Which is actually old. Very old according to Sam who also told us that a new album is pending but not impending due to other projects the band are working on. So we have a new Christmas single to tide us over. Good tidings indeed.
Solid Arctics b-side from the Cornerstone single. Pretty freaky. Brilliantly played.
Fyfe Dangerfield returns already with another song from his debut solo album 'Fly Yellow Moon'.
This, by his own admission, is his most pop sounding song on an album said to be fairly spooky in parts. I heard Sly Stone in the first 30 seconds. Apparently, others hear Dolly Parton. Either way this is romance
conveyed believably in tune form.
While we all patiently wait for a Klaxons album (excited obviously), we get some sweet elctro pop from Delphic. One of this year's slow burners are nicely placed for the release of their new album in Jan next year. And this is a brilliant tune that got great text reaction. Enjoy whenever for 7 days.
What a relief for all of us to finally unveil four masterpiece albums. From heavy metal, to street poetry...from punk rock, to French house, this series of masterpiece albums covers a lot of ground, each in their own unique way.
Clear your week, commit to Masterpieces and celebrate great music on Radio 1 and don't forget to leave a comment...

Proper jump up business in the Hot dept tonight. After the reflective 'Horchata', new single 'Cousins' is Vampire Weekend back to their upbeat best. Incredibly immediate and a good showing for their new album 'Contra'.
Ellie Goulding is a brand new artist that has come to our attention via Huw Stephens and Rob Da Bank. With good reason. A great singer songwriter edgy enough to sanction a brilliant remix from up and coming producer / remixer Jackwob. This got an amazing reaction in the Hottest Record dept tonight. Check it out.
Big week for The Maccabees. Announced as the headliner for next years NME Tour and back with a brand new re-working of former single, 'No Kind Words'. With added Roots Manuva we have a new slice of stink called 'Empty Vessels'. As a collaboration it works a treat. Now let's see if he makes out for any of the big shows next year.
Much as we like to think that we are on the cusp with new music, every now and then, you miss something special. We hold our hands up and right some wrongs for tonight's hottest record. Donae'o's latest album largely by passed us upon release, and now thanks to 'Riot Music' we can honestly say that it's a great album, and this song in particular is a massive heater. Warning: this record is not for the faint of speaker. 808 like boom!
Adam F and Redman reunite once again for another high octane collaboration after the hip hop banger 'Smash Somethin' released some years ago. This time, the original of 'Shut The Lights Off' goes heavy electro. But for hottest record duty tonight, we have opted for the Caspa Dub remix. His presence adds a real dark edge to this tune. Caspa is on top form right now.
We caught up with Plan B tonight to tell us about his latest tune, 'Stay Too Long'. Undeniably a departure for the UK rapper, but he's always sung on his songs and this time, boosted in confidence by his recent collaborations with Chase And Status, he's really pushed it here. In a great way. This is brilliant edgy pop music.
We go deep in the Hottest Record dept tonight. Influential electronic artist Four Tet's new offering 'Love Cry' pre-empts a new album due in late January called 'There Is Love In You'. Along with Joy Orbison, this is showing a new / old depth in the clubs right now.
No-one expected this one. Rhianna's new street track is tonight's Hottest Record. Thanks mainly to the involvement of producers
Chase And Status. That said, I am not 100% convinced this has achieved real greatness. The weight is there and
It's catchy enough, but it sounds like a bit of a missed opportunity to me. Mixed reaction, but some people really like it. And it has no doubt given C and S a lot of leverage in the US where their sound will do great things. Anyway.
Hottest Record from this weeks Album Of The Week. Biffy Clyro deliver a ferocious riff mixed with disco vocals on new one 'Cloud Of Stink'. The album, 'Only Revolutions' should, by right, be their most successful commercially. The trick is to do so without jolting anybody. 'Cloud Of Stink' will certainly soften the blow...heavy as you like. More tomorrow.
