Remembering Shibden Hall's Tommy!Former Shibden Hall gardener Tommy Topham is the inspiration for a very special flowerbed built by Paul Marshall and his team at Manor Heath Nursery in Halifax. The bed was shown at the Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show 2008 at Tatton Park.
The flowerbed design, by Deborah Comyn Platt, is called 'You've Made Your Bed, Now Lie In It' and features Tommy lying in a bed with a blanket on top - all made from a wide range of flowers. After many months of hard work, growing plants from seed and perfecting them to full bloom, Paul Marshall, the Estate Manager at Manor Heath Nursery in Halifax, and his team were ready to face the judges at Tatton Park. But all did not go so smoothly. On the day of transporting Tommy and the flowerbed from Halifax to Tatton Park, Paul and the team found out that Tommy was too big to fit in the lorry. The only solution was to chop off Tommy's head! Discover if it all turned out OK for Tommy, and what the judges made of the flowerbed in Paul's video! last updated: 27/08/2008 at 11:40 You are in: Bradford and West Yorkshire > Video Nation > Remembering Shibden Hall's Tommy!
