Q: Give us a potted history of your life so far...

A: I was born in Shropshire, though my family have been in Essex since the 60s. I grew up listening to the pirate radio stations which inspired me to want to be on the wireless! I used to be a mobile DJ employing several other DJs. I went to Scandinavia in the early 70s as a DJ in the nightclubs before getting my first radio job in 1975. I now live in a nice quiet Cambridgeshire village.

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: A TV cameraman.

Q: What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?

A: Fortunately, not too many of these. I guess the first time I left the studio microphone on whilst shouting a mild expletive!

Q: What's the worst job you've ever had?

A: Job? What's that?

Q: Do you have a catchphrase?

A: No.

Q: What was the first record you ever bought?

A: 'Atlantis' by the Shadows. I once mentioned this to Hank Marvin in an interview. He replied by saying he wasn't going to give me my money back!!

Q: What's your favourite food?

A: Vegetarian. Love pizzas, pastas, omelettes and beans on toast!

Q: When Hollywood comes calling, who'll play you?

A: George Clooney (or Philip Scofield if they can't afford him!).

Q: In a fire, what would you rescue first?

A: My computer hard drive! I have spent the last year digitising all of my CDs. There were nearly 100,000 tracks at the last count!

Q: What do you do to relax?

A: Love going to my local and bike riding!
