The U12’s produced some of their best football of the season on Sunday but when neither they, nor opponents Stanground, could find the net in normal or extra time, the U12 County Cup Final had to be decided by the lottery of a penalty shoot out. Stanground enjoyed the best of the early exchanges but having weathered the pressure and exerted some of their own, it was Sawtry who went on to have the best of the second half. It was a similar story in extra time, both sides had chances to put the game beyond the reach of the other but it was Sawtry who had the best of the play. Both sides got all their penalties on target - the final outcome determined by one crucial save from the Stanground ‘keeper. Speaking after the game, Sawtry Manager Tim Alban said: “Terry Bream, Martin Hipwell and I, are extremely proud of the boys, not one of them failed to raise their game for the big occasion. Obviously, we’re disappointed for them about the result but they played some great football today” he continued.
Team was as follows: Chris A, Connor B, Josh, Hayden, Lawrence, Conor G, Robert, Jonny, Chris L, Tylar, Conor N, Mike, Glyn, Ryan. Also shown Alex, who was cup tied and unable to play. Missing was Luke who had been away on holiday. |
