A Brand new twist on the old classics

Musician Neil Brand has many talents, but few are as spectacular as his ability tinkle the right ivories to accompany the silent movies of years gone by.

Neil Brand added an extra depth to the filmic experience at the Cambridge Film Festival 2007 when he performed live to classic silent films.

South, the story Sir Ernest Shackleton's early 20th century Antartica expedition, was originally made from the photography of Frank Hurley. A dramatic piece, displaying courage on the parts of those who sailed and the photographer himself, Neil explains how you capture such drama and how the Cambridge crowd were integral to the process.

Following that up with a musical accompaniment to the Harold Loyd comedy The Freshman would mean a change of pace of Neil, but he tells us how he tends to cope.

You can catch Neil on tour with Paul Merton from November onwards in their show called The Silent Clowns.
