Blazej Mikula is a Polish photographer who works and lives in Cambridge. He spends his days on a digitisation project at Parker's Library for Cambridge University.

Blazej feels the adrenaline

"It's a stress free job and I like it when there is peace and quiet at work," he says.

It's a far cry from Blazej's other projects.

"I'm travelling with my cameras to places like Iraq, Darfur and recently to Afghanistan. I was looking at Afghanistan through a couple of inches of bullet proof glass with a prayer written on it."

During his time with the 82nd Airborne Blazej also had his video camera with him. His film is a combination of dramatic footage from the war torn nation and his reflections on his trip now he is back in Cambridge.

His final night in Afghanistan was spent back at the base because there was no room for him in the convoy.

"That night soldiers were ambushed by the Taliban. Kalashnikov bullets and RPG hit the armoured convoy. No one was killed and the Taliban managed to escape."

Despite near misses such as this, Blazej is looking to get straight back among the action as a photographer embedded with British troops.
