Here are six facts you may not have known about Queen Elizabeth II:
The Queen owns all the whales and dolphins in the waters around the UK
It may sound strange but a statute from 1324, when King Edward II was in reign, stated: "Also the King shall have whales and sturgeons taken in the sea or elsewhere within the realm." The statute is still valid today and whales and dolphins are recognised as "Fishes Royal".
The Queen sent her first email in 1976
In 1976 the Queen sent her first email from a computer at a British Army base and in 2014 she sent her first tweet during a visit to an exhibition at the Science Museum.
The Queen was once given two sloths as a present
On a state visit to Brazil in 1968, the Queen was given two sloths. The Queen often receives gifts from around the world. Animal gifts she receives are often placed in zoos either in the UK or the country they were given from.
The Queen has cereal and toast for breakfast
The Queen's breakfast table is laid out with cornflakes and toast and she’s a fan of marmalade.
The Queen has a gold disc record
She is the first member of the Royal Family to be awarded a gold disc from the recording industry. In 2002, for the Golden Jubilee, a huge concert was held outside Buckingham Palace. Afterwards 100,000 copies of the CD of the "Party at the Palace" were sold.
The Queen’s nickname was ‘Tillabet’
When she was a child, she referred to herself as 'Tillabet' rather than her given name 'Elizabeth', which later in life became a close personal nickname 'Lilibet'
