How to make your own Strictly glitterball plant pot! 🪩
🚨 Be careful and get a grown up to help you when using sharp objects🚨
1. Making your papier-mâché glitterball
Grab your balloon and blow it up about halfway, or as big as you would like your glitterball to be. If you struggle with this step, ask a grown-up to help.
In a small bowl, mix together three parts flour to two parts water. This is to create your paste which will be used to stick your newspaper onto your balloon.
Rip or cut up your newspaper into strips. Using the flour and waste paste you made earlier stick the strips onto your balloon.
Repeat multiple times until the balloon is covered with newspaper from the top of the balloon to about 3/4 of the way down.
Top tip: Stand the balloon in something sturdy like a mug to keep it steady.
Leave to dry and then repeat, adding newspaper and paste onto the ball two more times to make sure your papier-mâché is as strong as it can be.
Top tip: It may take a while for the newspaper to dry in between layer, to speed this up you can use a hairdryer but make sure you get help off a grown up.
2. Decorating your glitterball ✨
When your papier-mâché is completely dry and hard you can bring it to life and start decorating!
Grab a paintbrush and some grey paint and paint over the newspaper. Once it's fully covered, leave to dry.
Top tip: Be careful with your glitterball at this stage, as you don't want the balloon to pop!
Once all the paint is dry, and the glitterball feels strong you can now pop the balloon, creating a round bowl.
To get the shiny glitterball look, cut up some foiled crisp packets into small squares.
Using glue or double-sided tape, stick your shiny squares onto the glitterball until it's entirely covered. Now it's starting to look fab-u-lous.
Carefully create four holes at the top of the bowl using the hole punch.
Thread your string through your holes and tie them in a knot so they stay in place.
Hang up your fabulous creation! Add your plant or whatever you choose into the glitterball and let it shine!
