How big are elephants?

Elephants are the world鈥檚 largest land mammal and can grow up to four metres.听

Why do elephants have trunks?

The elephants trunk is their nose, it's extra long and has many purposes such as: drinking, reaching for food, breathing, and they even use it as snorkel when swimming.

How long is an elephant's trunk?

An elephant's trunk can be as long as two metres which is taller than Steve!

Where do elephants live?

There are three species of elephants, two are native to Africa and one is native to Asia. In the wild they live where it is very sunny and hot.

How do elephants keep cool?

Elephants like to keep cool by going for a swim, they also use their trunks to spray themselves with water to cool down, a bit like how you'd water the garden with a hose pipe.

Why do elephants have big ears?

As elephants live in warm climates they can get very, very hot so their ears are like fans to cool themselves down. You can often see them flapping their ears, which is creating a light breeze that can speed up the cooling process.

What is a group of elephants called?

Elephants live in big family groups, called herds.听There's one female who is the leader of the group, she is called a matriarch.

What do elephants eat?

Elephants听are herbivores which means they only eat plants. They eat grass, leaves, shrubs, fruits and roots depending on the season.

How many hours do elephants spend eating a day?

Elephants spend most of their day eating and can eat for up to 18 hours a day. That's a lot of food!
