Why do giraffes have long necks?
The neck acts as a crane to reach leaves in the high branches of the trees.听Despite having the longest necks in the animal kingdom, giraffe's only have 7 bones in their neck. That's the same number as us!
How tall are giraffes?
Giraffes are the tallest animal in the world - their legs alone are taller than most grown-ups. A male giraffe can grow taller than a double-decker bus!
What do giraffes eat?
Giraffes are herbivores which means they only eat plants. Their favourite trees to snack on are acacia trees.
How long is a giraffe's tongue?
Giraffe's tongues can measure around 18 inches long which is almost as long as Aneeshwar's arm!
What colour is a giraffes tongue?
A giraffe's tongue is typically black, blue, or purple.
How do giraffes use their long tongues?
They use them to curl around branches, grab ahold of the leaves and pull them towards their mouth. They strip the leaves by running them through their thick lips and teeth, and coat them with sticky salivia to make the spiky leaves safe to swallow. They can pluck the leaves from even the spikiest of trees.
How many hours do giraffes spend eating a day?
Giraffes听spend most of their time eating, feeding between 16 to 20 hours a day.
Where do giraffes live?
Their native habitat would be roaming the open plains and woodlands of the dry savannahs in Africa.听
