We are taking this work – making schools and communities Stammer-Aware – all across the UK.
For us, the Radio 4 Appeal was an opportunity to kick-start our 30th anniversary campaign to reach more children and young people across the UK. Our 大象传媒 Radio 4 Appeal raised £15,143.
We estimate that there are 150,000 children and young people in the UK who stammer.
大象传媒 gives children access to specialist therapy and advice. This can not only improve their fluency, but it also – and more importantly – boosts their confidence and resilience.
We also work with the families of children who stammer, as well as teachers, therapists and other people in their communities. Most people are entirely sympathetic to children who stammer, but they don’t know what to do for the best, and often do the wrong thing out of ignorance and make things worse. We are helping children who stammer let those around them know how they want to be treated.
We are taking this work – making schools and communities Stammer-Aware – all across the UK, concentrating initially on areas where there is currently the most limited support for children who stammer. The funds raised from the Radio 4 Appeal will help start up this major project this year.
We were delighted that Sir Michael Palin presented our appeal. Michael has been a valued supporter of our work over 30 years, so we’re delighted that he is helping us to look forward to an even more successful future. In the appeal, Michael referred to Phoebe, an inspiring young woman who was able to overcome the setbacks that her stammering caused and pursue her goals in life. Phoebe is currently studying medicine at university (hear Michael and Phoebe in conversation ). The money raised by the 大象传媒 appeal will help other young people who stammer to achieve their goals.
