“I want to be the President of Malawi. I want to assist the country when I grow up, so that everyone has food and education.” Samson.
Mary’s Meals would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the 大象传媒 Radio 4 listeners who so generously supported our appeal to help transform the lives of hungry children with the promise of a daily meal. You helped us to raise an amazing £37,222, allowing us to feed 2,347 impoverished children with a daily meal for a whole school year!
Our appeal was presented by British tennis coach Judy Murray who has long been a passionate supporter of Mary’s Meals. She explained the importance of our work for those hungry children who rely on Mary’s Meals – often the only food they will eat in a day.
Children like Samson from Malawi. Samson, 13, has big dreams for the future that reach far beyond the remote island he calls home.
He lives with his big sister on Chizumulu, an island separated from mainland Malawi by 50 miles of water. Samson attends Chiteko Primary School where enrolment and attendance have been on the rise since Mary’s Meals started feeding there.
Prior to the arrival of Mary’s Meals, children used to drift off during the day because they didn’t have the energy to continue in class. Now children receive daily school meals – and stay to learn.
Chatting confidently in English after lunch, Samson spoke about his plans for the future: “I want to be the President of Malawi. I want to assist the country when I grow up, so that everyone has food and education.”
It costs us just £15.90 to feed a hungry child with Mary’s Meals for a whole school year.
