Uncontacted tribes are the most vulnerable peoples on the planet

Survival International would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who donated so generously to our Radio 4 Appeal in July, presented by actress Gillian Anderson about our “Uncontacted Tribes” campaign. 597 listeners donated to the appeal, raising an amazing £40,855.

There are more than a hundred uncontacted tribes around the world. They are a vitally important part of humankind’s diversity, but they face catastrophe unless their land is protected. We’re doing everything we can to secure their land for them, and to let them live.  We depend on people like you to fund our work for uncontacted tribes and the global movement for tribal peoples.

Unlike many charities, we refuse government funding and do not take money from corporations that are violating tribal peoples’ rights. Why? Because relying on your generosity gives us complete independence. It preserves our integrity, ensuring we never adjust our message or work to suit donors. Survival is politically and financially independent of all government, political, religious or corporation involvement. The vast majority of Survival’s funding comes from small, individual donors, like you, in over 100 countries.

Survival’s work is dedicated to changing public opinion – the only effective force which can bring permanent change. The future survival of uncontacted tribes and tribal peoples does not depend on giving them clothes or money; it requires voices to speak up alongside theirs, their land rights upheld, and their human rights respected.  We use your money to work in partnership with tribal peoples, investigate atrocities and present evidence to the UN and other international forums. Your donations allow us to lobby those in power and ensure the issue remains in the media spotlight to shame the multinational corporations and organizations profiting from the theft of tribal land. We speak truth to power and we win against all odds.
