"1984 is the year that all three of us were born. It was also important to us that the garden was an urban retreat that fits with the society created in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four - an area to escape Big Brother! Finally, the 1980s are back in fashion and we wanted to pick up on current design trends.

By entering the urban category we immediately centred our thinking around the notion of a modern and functional urban space that also had environmental credentials.

Gardens are part of the green corridors supporting wildlife in cities, but they are also an extension of our indoor living areas. In difficult economic times our aim was to create something that related to current social and political issues, but with a kitsch nod to the 1980s!"
