The Children's Society Garden
Designed by Mark Gregory
"This garden addresses the challenges facing a modern urban family. Last year we created the front garden of an urban house and this year we have worked on the rear garden of the same house, using the same style and materials.
The challenges are ongoing; space is at a premium and each and every element must work for its place. The family are style conscious, appreciating modern clean lines and good design, and so need a way to compost and store tools within the garden's compact structure.
The teenage children are learning about the importance of eating well and where their food is coming from, and the family are all very concerned about environmental issues. We found an innovative solution for drying washing, lessening the family's dependency on electricity. One of their key desires is to grow herbs and vegetables for the table, concentrating on the productivity of their small garden."
