The Pilgrims Rest
Designed by Chris O'Donoghue
A ruined chapel wall, thatched dovecote, straw bee skeps (hives) and raised beds enclosed by hazel hurdles set the scene for Chris O'Donoghue's small herb garden.
"From the Middle Ages, herb gardens have been used as places of rest, reflection and meditation, The Pilgrim's Rest is inspired by this idea and aims to give the impression of a small, peaceful garden, attached to the ruins of an old monastic building.
It's a place where the weary pilgrim can rest and be soothed, surrounded by the delicious scents and forms of herbs that have been in medicinal and culinary use since ancient times.
The wonderful shapes and textures of the many herbs will help rest the eye and nourish the soul."
