Maiden Names 女士婚前姓氏

A maiden name is a woman’s surname before marriage, and many women in Britain still change their surnames to their husbands' family surname when they get married.

But why do they do this? Are there any advantages in changing your surname? In this programme we explore why this tradition started, and find out why one woman chose not to take her husband’s surname when she got married 25 years ago.

Listen to Finn's report. Afterwards you can take a quiz to check your understanding.
