Chelsea made a comeback 重振雄风from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 in their FA Cup tie against London rivals 对手, Tottenham. Chelsea’s manager, Jose Mourinho, made some tactical changes 战术改变but says it was the quality of his players which saved the game. Tottenham took the lead 领先in the quarter-final match but Chelsea hit back when England player Frank Lampard equalised 扳平得分. Tottenham, or "Spurs" as they’re usually called, were soon ahead again when Chelsea's Michael Essien scored an own goal 乌龙球 (自进球). Eight minutes later, they made it 3-1 after Hossam Ghaly slotted home 塞进家门, 进球(通俗表达)another. Chelsea left it until the last twenty minutes to come back, scoring two goals to draw the match and earn a replay 复赛. Jose Mourinho said his players' "mentality" 思想意志 was very good.
He means they believed they could still win despite being behind. He said his team were "two goals down" 负两球. In other words, they were losing by two goals, and "out of the competition"出局了, meaning they would have been eliminated被淘汰了. Tottenham's manager, Martin Jol, said Chelsea "threw everything at us" 把什么都扔向我们,全力以赴. He means they made every effort to score. They used three strikers 前锋, which is a very attacking approach.
But he thinks Spurs could have won the match. He said "it would have been over if we scored a fourth goal".
